Proper Cooling Down After Exercising to Avoid Injury

Exercising on a regular basis is important for our bodies as it keeps us healthy and fit and helps avoid major illness, infections and diseases. It is important to exercise also because it helps the body relax, helps the body rid itself off toxins, reduce stress and also helps the mind focus better.

After exercising, it is important to cool down gradually, just as warming up before exercising is. This helps the body and the muscles relax without risk of injury. Cooling down is basically a mechanism of restoring the body back to its pre-exercise state.

Cooling down is basically achieved in three major ways. The first step is light exercises. These exercises can be similar to the regular exercises but toned down in intensity and vigor as well as in repetitions. These exercises should be undertaken for about 5 to 10 minutes.

After the low intensity workouts, the next process should be stretching of the muscles. All major muscles should be stretched. These include the back, neck, shoulder, arm and leg muscles. Stretch muscles well and deeply for a couple of minutes, about 5 minutes in total.

Finally, engage in a simple nutrition intake. It is important to take some nutritious food items to replenish energy that the body lost during the workout.
